I brought my microphone, and tried to hide inconspicuously in the back, but the preacher called me up to the front and I was escorted by 2 ushers to the stage, hiding the microphone in my front pocket. This recording captures a child-healing cermony at the moment at which I was being passed around amongst limb-flailing Mayan women, who would cry, hug me, thank me, and fall to the floor while 3 children were being hit in the chest with bibles as they struggled violently on the floor, as if having seizures (possibly having seizures). this was my informal introduction to Guatemala, and despite the quality of the recording itself, I have always enjoyed sharing the climactic screams of the preacher on such a powerful night. (2005) - Guitars and vocals recorded by Geoff Hawryluk in Edmonton (2008) 16 Hati Hati - Tongam sirait and Chales Hutapea of Parapat, Sumatra performing an english song. It sounds like it must be a famous western pop song, but a year's worth of google lyric-searches have yielded no results, and I don't know who wrote this song, though I don't believe it was written by Tongam. Tongam and Charles are accompanied by Got, who gets a few lines in there, and Geoff Hawryluk on djembe. (2007) - Guitars and vocals recorded by Geoff Hawryluk in Edmonton (2008) Written, Recorded and arranged by Geoff Hawryluk unless otherwise noted.
